Brief Description

Build a career in the global financial industry with UL’s Master of Science (MSc) in Finance. 

The programme offers in-depth training in financial analysis, corporate finance, capital markets, risk management, data science, predictive modelling, derivatives, private equity, and financial regulation. 

Led by expert faculty and industry practitioners, you will use computational techniques, such as Python programming, data analytics, and statistical tools, alongside evidence-based research methods, news articles, case studies, and reports to critically examine contemporary business, environmental, and socioeconomic issues. 

The programme holds special recognition from the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP), the world-leading professional association for financial risk managers, offering professional qualification scholarships to enrolled learners. 

It is ideal for recent graduates and early career professionals seeking to enhance their employment prospects in the financial services industry and related fields. 

During this programme, you will:  

  • Gain in-depth training in a wide variety of fields within finance, such as financial analysis, corporate finance, capital markets, corporate governance and financial regulation. 

  • Specialise in a capstone pathway aligning with your career goals by pursuing a research, business analytics or an international university double degree option. 

  • Gain a qualification that has achieved special recognition from the Global Association of Risk Professional (GARP), the world-leading professional association for financial risk managers. 

  • Gain access to scholarship opportunities to pursue professional qualifications and accelerate your career in Financial Risk Management (FRM) and Sustainability and Climate Risk (SCR). 

Key information:  

  • Complete full-time over one year

  • Modules taught during autumn, spring and summer semesters   

  • Submit dissertation at the end of the summer semester  

  • Option to exit with a Postgraduate Diploma in Finance after spring semester 

  • Choose a capstone pathway that aligns with your career goals: research, business analytics, or double degree 

 

Year 1 

Autumn Semester  

  • Global Finance (FI6181) outlines the dynamics and strategies that underpin money supply operations, capital market functions, international financial markets, and corporate finance decision-making. 

 

Spring Semester  

  • Financing System Change (FI6182) focuses on early-stage, entrepreneurial finance and examines financing models and associated bottlenecks when changing energy, food and transport systems. 

  • Financial Regulation (IN6012) explains the structure of financial regulation in Europe, the role of supervisory bodies in the financial services industry, and challenges in responding to emerging innovations, risks, and technologies. 

Students have the option to exit with a Postgraduate Diploma in Finance at this stage.  

 

Summer Semester 

  • Research Dissertation in Business (AC6043) enables students to develop and demonstrate independent research and critical thinking skills and apply them to an emerging or existing issue in the business domain. 

Or  

  • Digital Futures Lab (MI6103) deploys a design approach to address complex organisational and societal problems through mapping, analysis and creative thinking. 

Or  

  • Complete year 2 in French partner university 

Books and journal articles needed for the course will be available online through the UL Glucksman Library.

  • Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree (NFQ Level 8) with at least a second-class honour, grade 2 (2:2) in a relevant discipline. 

  • You may also be considered if you have relevant professional qualifications and experience and/or with an honours degree in a relevant discipline.

  • *If you are waiting to graduate, submit your application with the documents you have to date, you don’t need to have finished final exams before applying.

Annual fees are billed by semester. Once registered, students may be eligible to apply for a monthly payment plan.
