Brief Description
A “T-shaped” professional possesses a deep expertise in a particular field and a broad understanding of other disciplines. Being highly adaptable and multi-skilled is essential for executives and leaders in today's fast-paced and constantly evolving business world.
UL’s Master of Professional Practice (MPP) is a flexible, part-time master's degree designed for working professionals who want to build an interdisciplinary Masters tailored to their previous and future career goals.
The programme enables you to combine postgraduate awards across diverse disciplines into a single multi-disciplinary Masters award.
The MPP is achieved in one-year by earning 30 ECTS credits through a Professional Diploma and a reflective learning assignment at UL.
Students choose from a specific list of Professional Diplomas across diverse disciplines such as; AI, Data Analytics, Cybersecurity, Strategic Leadership, Project Management, Lean, and Law & Technology to complete their master’s degree.
This programme is suited to those who already hold 60 ECTS credits at NFQ Level 9 that have been awarded within the last 5 years. This is typically earned through two Professional Diplomas at UL or equivalent postgraduate awards from other institutions.
If you don’t yet hold 60 ECTS credits at a postgraduate level, you can begin your journey by enrolling in one of UL’s Professional Diplomas, Postgraduate Certificates or Postgraduate Diplomas.

Ray Frawley - Master of Professional Practice
I chose a PD in strategic leadership as the pathway to my master’s qualification. The rationale was that it complemented the earlier PDs in management practice and sustainable work with the learnings for the leadership course lending itself perfectly to my current position which has required me to step up to a new leadership role and to become more strategic in my outlook.
Brian Tuohy – Master of Professional Practice
I strongly believe in further learning, and the Master of Professional Practice is a wonderful pathway for those in the workforce to study and immerse themselves while maintaining a full-time professional role. I advocate for this course almost daily with professional colleagues as well as casual, moderately interested acquaintances.
