The Resilient & Sustainable Materials Pillar: Powered by Two Expert Teams

The Sustainable and Resilient Materials Pillar at the Bernal Institute unites the Advanced Materials and Composite & Lightweight Structures teams to pioneer transformative solutions for a circular and resource-resilient future.

Our mission is to drive cutting-edge research in the synthesis and characterization of sustainable materials while advancing the design, modelling, and manufacturing of lightweight structures that reduce environmental impact. Spanning biomaterials, pharmaceutical materials, and functional systems such as thermoelectric, piezoelectric, and hydrogel-based materials, our work is complemented by the development and scaling of sustainable processing technologies.

Grounded in rigorous life cycle analysis and a commitment to sustainability, we aim to deliver innovations that safeguard resources, enable societal progress, and empower future generations.
